Volunteer Kenya with IFRE, working in an orphanage

Volunteer Kenya with IFRE, working in an orphanage, teaching English, helping out in a health clinic or at women’s empowerment groups, or enhancing public awareness of how HIV/Aids is spread. Projects are offered in Mombasa and Nairobi. Volunteers also often take on a four-week Summer Adventure program. Animals thrive here in tropical forests and the phenomenal Serengeti. The country’s lesser-known beaches are superb. Small traditional villages are a joy to explore. It’s also fun getting to know the famous, fascinating Masai.

Volunteers can take a most useful week-long language and culture program in Nairobi, where you’ll also do some sightseeing. Surprisingly verdant, the capital is known as the Green City in the Sun. You’ll immediately reap the benefits volunteering at an orphanage, feeling the curiosity they have for you while smiling and enjoying your responses, giving them a chance to practice their English.

Volunteer in Tanzania with IFRE and you’ll make a lifetime’s worth of amazing memories. You’ll be mesmerized by Africa’s highest mountain (Mount Kilimanjaro), one of the continent’s best national parks (Serengeti) as well as one of the region’s most enthralling islands (Zanzibar) and its unique Islamic Stone Town and its many spices.

For a week in Dar es Salaam, volunteers can learn the Swahili language and local culture, plus go sightseeing around the capital as well as the popular town Bagomaya and rural villages. Volunteering opportunities in Dar es Salaam and Arusha include orphanage work, teaching English, HIV/Aids awareness, women’s empowerment, and conservation and environment. There’s also a Summer Adventure program that’s four weeks long.

Volunteer work Peru offers great ways to explore this intriguing country of great beauty while helping its neediest residents. The land is defined by many rivers and a beautiful range of Andean mountains along the western side of the country, where you’ll find the wild landscape where the peaks meet and mingle with Pacific beaches. Most Peruvians live in the verdant mountainous areas of the West, away from the arid East. The glories of Incan culture and their great architectural masterpieces are palpable.

IFRE’s Peru projects are mostly in the popular town of Cusco, with a few in Urubamba, Trujillo and Arequipa. Volunteers work in orphanages and with street children, teach English, or take part in a health or conservation project. No special skills are needed other than having a love for children, a passion for preserving forest, or promoting good health, as well as English language knowledge; a smattering of Spanish would go far as well. Indeed, you can learn some basic Spanish at a course before your project commences.
