CROWN MOLDINGS DESIGN

Crown moldings will give any room a finished look. It is an architectural accent which fills the gap between the wall and the ceiling. Moldings design varies from simple crown moldings to the elaborate decorative crown moldings. Choosing the perfect crown moldings design and size will take some time but the result is a beautiful home designed for class and elegance.

Here are some tips on how to choose the perfect design of crown moldings;

  1. Take into consideration the style of your home. Choose a molding design that will coordinate with your home style. Period style homes go well with decorative crown moldings with elaborate designs.
  2. Choose a molding size that is appropriate with the ceiling height of your room. Rooms that have tall ceilings need wider moldings, about 4 inches up wide while rooms that have lower ceilings need moldings that are 3 inches or less in width.
  3. Try to get a sample of the molding you want and put in the area where you want to install them. If getting a sample is not an option, draw the design of the molding instead on a piece of cardboard according to its actual size. Attach it in place for a few days to get the feel of the actual design and height. Bear in mind that all moldings in the room should complement each other. A room with different types of moldings will look best if the designs and scale are proportionate with each other.
  4. Choose the molding material you want for your home, considering your budget. If you want to stain your moldings, using hardwood like oak gives the best quality. Less expensive softer woods like spruce or pine still looks best for staining and even painting.
